B is for...

{source}

This lampshade from Restoration Baby
was the inspiration for a special piece of wall art.

A custom made canvas
featuring a
bunny for baby Brooke (my newest neighbor) who was born this week.
Her mommy loved the lampshade so much
that she designed the whole nursery to coordinate with it.

So, in a little bit, I'm bringing them dinner
(salad, bread, homemade manicotti
and Ghirardelli Chocolate Turtle Brownies)
and this little "B" for
Bunny and Baby Brooke.

And guess what?
I've got something for you, too!

I'll Fly Away

Last month, I debuted my
Momma Bird with Chicks
ready to frame wall art on canvas.

I just finished a custom order for these two:

~For the Momma with one chick~

~and for the Momma of 3, whose youngest chick recently flew to heaven~

{see her little crown?}

If you're interested in ordering one in time for Mother's Day, there's still a blip of time left.
Have a sweet day!

So, I Was In Michael's...

I went to Michael's today. Nothing out of the ordinary. I always have a list. Always a mile long.
Usually shopping for supplies for our church and/or my business.
I had the list in my hand and grabbed a shopping cart.

Halfway through the store, I spot this lady and her daughter (that I had to guess was probably about 9 years old). They are both sprawled out on the floor near a clearance rack. Two large baskets of discounted beads dumped all over the floor. Their shopping cart was in the middle of the aisle.

The lady loudly tells everyone who will listen how wonderful the beads are and how great they'll be for her daughter's party.

I walk up to the clearance rack and park my cart next to hers. I walk over to the other side of the rack, trying to take a peak at the other deals. I love a good bargain, you know...

"Don't worry, we're gonna clean this up," she says to me.

I responded with a smile and said, "Oh, you're fine."

I push the cart and walk off. I'm on the hunt for the things on my list and have a few other items pop into my head that didn't make it to paper. Must not forget those.

I walk about 4 aisles away and find what I'm looking for. I grabbed the items and when I look down, I see that the cart next to me isn't mine.

My cart is gone.

My cart with my purse in the seat, is gone.

I start to look around and think to myself, where is my cart? Someone switched carts on me. I didn't even notice. My purse is gone. Who took my cart? What's going on?

At the same time, I hear the lady's voice again,

"It's black and has a monogrammed D on the front."

An employee shows up at the end of the aisle and I say to her,

"Um, I have someone else's cart. This isn't mine. I can't find mine."

She says, "Your cart is over here (four aisles away) and you have hers."

Mortified, I push the cart to the lady. I laugh from embarrassment and start apologizing profusely...

"I am so sorry. I walked off with your cart accidentally. Remember me? I was just standing next to you? I thought someone switched my cart on me. I was confused there for a second. I'm so sorry."

Well, this woman falls on the floor and covers her face with her hands and starts yelling,

"OMG! (except she's yells the words-I don't like that), OMG! OMG! I can't believe this has happened, OMG!!"

She goes on and on and on. And on. I ended up walking away. Hoping that people weren't going to start running away from the "Cart Thief", I quickly finished my shopping. I felt like everyone was staring at me.

Then, I realized that I forgot something and I had to pass by her to get it. Great.

I see her and say with a smile,

"Again, I am so sorry. I was very distracted and didn't realize I walked off with the wrong cart."

She interrupts me and says, shaking her head and waving her hands in the air,

"It's over. It's over. Thank God it's over."

And now, this post is over.

But first, let me ask you.

Have you ever been so distracted that you walked off with the wrong cart. Am I the only one?

Break it to me gently.

Pass The Chips, Please...

Who says you have to throw that chipped plate away?
This is what I did with one of our dinner plates that had TWO chips in it.

See?

I don't have photos of the steps, but they're super easy.

1) I got a piece of my favorite scrapbook paper.
(I'm sure you can use wallpaper or wrapping paper, too)

2) I grabbed my trusty Mod Podge

3) I measured the inside of my plate and cut the paper to fit.
(I happen to have another plate that is the size of the circle that I needed.
I used that as a template)

4) I painted a chipboard letter R for our last name.

5) I attached the paper and the letter to the plate using the Mod Podge.

Because of where I wanted to display the plate,
I knew the chips would be easily hidden by my other accessories.

There ya have it!

*I don't why the font size varies so much in this post.
Don't mind that and just look at my cute plate*

Deal Of The Day

Ok, gotta show you these wooden cube shelvey guys that I scored this morning.
The lady was moving to Cali and wasn't gonna have room for them in her new place.
You'll never, ever guess what I paid for them...
Go ahead.
Try.

Five.
$5 dollars, you say!?
Yes, five buckaroonis!
For both.

I'm sure I'll lose sleep tonight, trying to decide how I'm gonna cute them up.

My First Car

There she is.
My very first car.
A yellow '73 VW Bug.
(with the ladybug floor mats to boot)

I bought this car when I was only 14 years old.
At the time, I was working every weekend as a dishwasher at a restaurant.
(a job my grandparents helped me get when I was 13)
I didn't even have a learner's permit when I got it.
My dad said he would match what I saved up
and when I was ready, he would help me find a good deal.
So, when I was almost 15,
I bought this from a little old lady who had been the only owner.
I think I paid a whopping $1600

I learned how to drive in this car.
I could not parallel park it.
I stuffed it full of friends.
I threw my books in the front trunk space after school.
I drove it to the beach a lot.
I had a Bert (Sesame Street) license plate on the front.
I put surfing stickers on the back and side windows.
I pushed it many times into the driveway so as not to wake my sleeping parents.
Oh, the fun we had!
My first car and me....

My boys say they wish I still had it
and a part of me does, too.

What was your first car?
Did you get it as a gift
or buy it yourself?

I'd really like to know....
